წარწერა 7 სტრიქონიანია. მომწვანო ტუფის სწორკუთხოვანი ფილის ზემო ნაწილზე რელიეფურად გამოქანდაკებულია პატარა სამკუთხედებისაგან შემდგარ მედალიონში ჩასმული „ბოლნური ჯვარი“ ბუნზე. ჯვრის მკლავები ორმაგი კონტურებითაა ამოჭრილი. ჯვრის ქვემოთ ამოკვეთილია წარწერა. · Seven line inscription. The figure of “Bolnisi Cross” is embossed on a medallion shaped with small triangles that is embedded on the upper part of a green tufa rectangular plaque. The crossbars are engraved with double contours. The inscription is engraved under the cross.

ნოდარ შოშიაშვილის ქართული წარწერების კორპუსის მიხედვით # 18. წარწერას განკვეთილობისა და ქარაგმის ნიშნები არ ახლავს. მე-3 სტრიქონი იწყება ფილის შუა ადგილიდან. სტრიქონის მარცხენა მხარეზე კი ჩანს დაზიანებისა თუ განზრახ გადაფხეკის შედეგად გადასული წარწერის რამდენიმე გრაფემების ოდნავ შესამჩნევი კვალი. ეს გასაგებს ხდის წარწერის შერეული წესით ამოკვეთის მიზეზს: დაუწყიათ ამოკოდვილი ასოებით, შემდეგ განუზრახავთ ტექსტის შეცვლა. მაგრამ ძველი წარწერის გადაშლით დაზიანებულ ზედაპირზე ამოკოდვით შესრულებული გრაფემები არ გამოჩნდებოდა, ამიტომაც გააგრძელეს წარწერა რელიეფური ასოებით. მე-3 სტრიქონის პირველ ნახევარზე წარწერა არ ამოუკვეთიათ ქვის ზედაპირის დაზიანების გამო.

According to the Corpus of Georgian Inscriptions by Nodar Shoshiashvili the inscription #18. The inscription does not contain any mark of separation or abbreviation. The 3rd line starts in the middle of the plaque. On the left side of the same line there is a damage or a scratch thus some of the graphemes are hardly noticeable. That explains the reason for the difference in type of the engraving: it seems that they started to carve letters and then decided to change the text. But the damaged surface by erasing the previous letters would not be suitable for the new inscription, that’s why they continued to write with embossed letters. As for the first part of the 3rd line, it seems that they did not engrave anything on that part because of the damage to the surface.
