Text: 13 line inscription. Inscription is located on the central bas-relief of the east facade of the Jvari Monastery church (on the left side of the central bas-relief), on the plaque shaped as an irregular rectangle which is encircled by an embossed frame with a cornice on top. The illustration depicts the image of Demetrius Hypatos the Ktetor of the church on his knees, the figure of Archangel Michael with open wings depicted above his head. The figure of Demetrius is turned right (towards the central bas-relief- Stephen the Patrikios). The engraved inscription has vertical columns on both sides of Demetrius. Commentary
According to the Corpus of Georgian Inscriptions by Nodar Shoshiashvili the inscription #70. Iv. Javakhishvili believes that the inscription can be dated to the end of the VI century. He specifies that the paleographic data proves the early origins of the inscription: the head of the grapheme Ⴣ is closed. Case of “khanmeti” ხანმეტი in the words „მეოხ ხეყავ“ is noticeable. Iv.Javakhishvili believes that the builders of the church: Stephen the Patrikios of Kartli and Demetrius Hypatos are brothers (source: Conversion of Kartli (chronicle) II, 724). Demetrius Hypatos should have received the rank of Hypatos during the period when the east part of Georgia was under the domain of the King of Byzantium, i.e. 591-604 years. Thus, the inscriptions should belong to the same period of the last decades of the VI century.
